XFX $10K Counter-Strike: Source Qualifier

Posted: 8/25/2007 By: willy

Tournament!

Introducing the XFX $10K Counter-Strike: Source Qualifier!

What?!!? The total prize package tops out at over $10,000.00?

The XFX $10K Counter-Strike Source Qualifier is a double elimination tournament being held at 8 locations across the country on the weekend of September 8/9.

Teams of 5 players will compete for CASH, NVIDIA and XFX prizes, and for the opportunity to advance to Phase 2 of the XFX Challenge (Phase 2 is held at a later date). Make it through all three phases and you get flown to Sweden to compete in the World Series of Video Games. NOTE: The $10,000 cash & prize purse is just for this qualifier; there are more prizes for other qualifiers.

Saturday will be a double elimination LAN tournament with a maximum of 8 teams at each of 8 participating centers (64 team maximum). The 8 winners from each center's LAN tournaments will advance to Sunday, which is a WAN (online) double elimination tournament against other LAN winners.

The WAN (online) portion of the tournament will be run in conjunction with CEVO.

Like all Net Heads cash tournaments, local players receive an all day pass worth $25 just for entering the tournament. Think of it like getting two all days passes (maybe three if you're any good) for $30. You save $20 and throw your hat in the ring for enough money to buy your sister that pink chiffon dress she's always wanted.

Now you can practice on site before the event. Get your team together, refine your strats, scrim with the teams you'll be competing with during the tournament - FOR FREE!

Saturday, September 1st is The Boot Camp. You must be confirmed and registered for the event to participate in The Boot Camp. Seating is limited, so contact josh@netheads.com before hand to reserve your seats.

Need even more practice? You can play CS:Source on Wednesday nights from 6pm to 11pm for only $10!

This is CS:Source, folks; so we're not going to get those CS 1.6 gunslingers who ride in and steal the gold. And we'll only have 8 teams, instead of having 16. That means the slots will fill up fast and it will be local players, not hitters from Chicago.

If you want all the details; like prizes, rules, registration and other stuff, you can find them here.

Just in case you were wondering, YES, we are open today.

So, if you are out of school or off of work, then come on down!

We're Upgrading! And We're Selling Our Systems!

Posted: 11/15/2006 By: willy

Every two years we upgrade our computer systems just so we'll have the latest technology.

We then sell our perfectly good existing systems to folks who need a new one. That's you or someone you know.

These are the great systems that we've been using right in the store. Check out the specs:

Case:Aspire X-Dreamer
Motherboard:Asus A7N8X-X
Processor:AMD Athlon 2500+
RAM: 512MB Crucial PC3200
Hard drive :120GB Hitachi 7200RPM
Video: ATI 9800 Pro 128MB AGP8X
CDROM:52X CD-ROM
Floppy:1.44 Floppy
Audio: On board
Network: On board

And we're practically giving these away! Each system is only $375. Want one and want to save $25? Tell your friends and if you come in and buy them together, we'll give both of you the discounted price of $350 each.

Over 2/3 are already spoken for; 1/3 of them have already shipped and this is our first announcement!!

These systems make great upgrades for gaming systems at home or for parents, game servers, web servers, database servers or development/testing machines. They're even great for younger brothers or pet monkeys (as if there was a difference).

These systems include only what's shown and do not include Windows XP or application software.

If you need help installing Windows, we can do that for you. For just $30, we'll install a genuine copy of Windows XP Home or XP Professional that you obtain or already have on your own (take THAT Geek Squad).

Get your holiday shopping done early and save some money at the same time.

But don't wait too long!

World Cyber Games Comes to Net Heads

The World Cyber Games is the largest video game tournament in the world - and the U.S.A. qualifiers are coming to Indy!!

Last year 1,250,000 players competed with 679 competitors from 67 countries advancing to the finals in Singapore - where the cash purse was $435,000.

This year the destination is Monza, Italy. The cash purse for the US competition is $76,000 and 125 U.S competitors will move on to Italy.

WCG has picked four spots in the US for the semi-final matches and we're one. Qualifications are already complete, so it's too late for you to compete.

Come in and watch some of the best compete, before the final U.S.A. team is selected to go to Italy.

The winning team does not get a yellow shirt or a sore seat but they do get to kick butt.

The store will be open for spectating only from 5pm July 28th to midnight July 30th.

MySpace Returns!

Posted: 5/12/2006 By: Josh

We have re-enabled access to MySpace.

With our new state-of-the-art firewall and internet traffic shaper in place, surfing those media heavy profiles should no longer cut into online gaming performance. We are still adding a second T1 line too. It's coming as fast as the phone company can get the line installed. We expect the upgrade to happen sometime next month.

March 3rd Worm Spreads

Posted: 2/2/2006 By: willy

A new worm is loose on the net and it's a nasty one.

Security company F-Secure has reported that Nyxem.E reached the top position in its virus statistics with 21.7 percent of all reported infections. On Saturday the Web counter used by the Nyxem worm itself showed over 510,000 infections and continued to rise, according to F-Secure.

You can check here for detailed information on the infection.

A free downloadable virus protection software may help from BitDefender.

Remember, keep those patches and virus definitions up to date!

Thanks to WishTV for spreading the word!!!

Quake 4 Tournament - Feb 11th

Posted: 1/25/2006 By: Scroggilly

Holiday spending catching up with you? Lottery tickets looking less and less attractive all the time?

Cheer up, Bunky. You can have fun and make money at the Quake 4 Winter Challenge.

There are only two places in the country you can play in this tournament - New York and Indy. Winners at each location square off for the title. Shades of the Knicks and Pacers all over again but without that loser, Spike Lee.

Starts at 9:00am on Saturday, February 11th. Check out details below and get in on the early bird special on the entry fee:
  Prizes
  Details
  Register

Don't forget, everyone who enters the event receives and all day pass from Net Heads. (Translation: If you suck, you're not out any money - and that is about as far from reality as you can get!)

And as if that isn't enough, we're having the Whack Your Willy Challenge. Anyone finishing out of the money gets to take on Willy in a one-on-one, two out of three competition for a shirt and a one hour pass.

This is another Quake event organized by the Cybersquare Alliance and let's face it, Quake is what started it all.

We're even getting national exposure on this one, check us out on Planet Quake!

p.s. Ignore that lame attempt to get us to sign up a week late.

The event really IS February 11th.

Net Heads Gets to Iraq

Posted: 1/13/2006 By: willy

This is our version of the "find the baby ducks in this picture" game. The more we looked at it, the more bad asses we saw in it.

Rich is one of our favorite customers and has emailed us letters and photographs from Iraq. We thanked him by putting up his letters where you can read them (click here). They are absolutely great to read and will give you a slightly different take on the war than what you'll get from Katie Couric. (They were updated today.)

He's due home soon and you can expect a welcome home party to follow.

A Holiday Party

Posted: 12/6/2005 By: Willy

We'll be closed for business starting at 3pm Wednesday, December 7th for a private party.

We will reopen for normal business hours on Thursday morning at 11am.

Some really cool company figured out that Net Heads is a great place to have a company party.

Maybe if you hadn't had that lampshade on your head at the last party your invitation wouldn't have gotten "lost in the mail."

Maybe next year, Bunky.

Happy Thanksgiving - Letters from Iraq

Posted: 11/25/2005 By: bill

Many of you remember Rich, one of our regulars who shipped off to Iraq.

He's been sending us great letters and photos. We asked him if we could put them up on our site. He agreed.

Take the time to read them and think how lucky we are to have guys like these in our Army.

PNY CPL Winter Qualifier Wrap-up

Posted: 11/15/2005 By: Josh

Net Heads, Indianapolis, IN - On November 12th, 2005, six teams drove from five states to attend the PNY CPL Winter 2005 Counter-Strike 1.6 Qualifier at Net Heads. Attendance may have been small, but the action was big.

The event kicked off with two spankings handed out by Strapped and oj, sending sinister and ^Exponential to the lower bracket where they would both exit the tourney in round 2. Upper Round 2 wouldn't go quite so well for Strapped and oj, as 50|cal and uNited uNderground sent them both to the lower bracket. Both games were very close though, with both Strapped and oj making big second half pushes in their respective games to take the matches down to the wire.

oj and Strapped would then face off on dust2 in the lower bracket to see who would secure 3rd place. Strapped took the first half 8 to 7, but oj took 8 rounds in the second half to send the match into overtime. After losing the pistol round, Strapped won the next 4 rounds to win the match. Strapped would then go on to lose to uNited uNderground in round 4 and go home with 3rd place.

Meanwhile, the day's main rivalry, UU vs 50|cal was just heating up. Both teams featured former members of Glimpse of Reality, who won the Midwest CPL Summer Qualifier and local PNY CS 1.6 Challenge at Net Heads earlier this year. In their first match, 50|cal handled uu with ease in a 16-8 win. But, uu was determined to prevail as they took out Strapped to win the lower bracket and move on to the finals.

The first championship round was a barn burner as PineKone, who turned out a stellar performance and would later be named tournament MVP, led uu to a 16-13 win over 50|cal on dust2. 50|Cal had picked up some steam towards the end of that match though, which carried over into the second championship round. 50|cal managed to edge out uu 8-7 in the first half of round two on train, and uu would have to settle for 2nd place, as JoNNiE, firewire, and crew turned up the heat to win the second half 8-5 to win the tournament.

Congratulations to 50|cal for a hard fought and well deserved win. Good luck at the big show in December!

Katrina Victims in Indianapolis

Posted: 9/6/2005 By: bill

Katrina has sent its victims all over the country. Many have landed or will be landing in Indianapolis soon.

Many of them have lost everything, including computers and communication tools. Communicating with friends and relatives can bring comfort in a time of high anxiety and uncertainty.

For those victims near Indy, Net Heads is offering a free hour each day to stay in touch with loved ones and family that have been scattered by the storm.

Applications include email, Internet, web cams, instant messaging and internet based voice communications. Those looking for work can create resumes.

Systems are available throughout the day and can be used each day.

All we ask is that they show a current Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama drivers license or other photo ID before they sign in.

Please let others know.
